. . My mother liked telling this story every Easter. Our minister at the time was Rev. Boggs. The time period was late 1950's or early 1960's. Mom was talking with Mrs. Boggs a few weeks after Easter. She told her that her family had discussed what they wanted to eat for ther Easter meal. Their children said that they wanted ham for Easter. Mrs. Boggs told them that there would not be enough money for a ham this year. The children fussed and said to them that their Mom and Dad had always told them to pray for their needs. One of them said, " Why can't we pray for a ham for Easter?" So, they did.
lEastertime was usually the time that the Hall family butchered their hogs. Most of the time the meat was never sold. It was kept for our famiy to eat because there was always so many of us to feed. Ham was truly a luxury.
The day before Easter, Rev. Boggs stopped at our house to give my mother something. He said he was in a hurry and couldn't stay. My mother said,"You know, something just told me to give our pastor one of the new hams." She said that she quickly told Rev. Boggs to wait just a second, that she'd give him a ham to take home with him. She said that he almost jumped in the house and had such an odd look on his face. She handed him the ham ; he thanked her, and Rev. Boggs left.
(Back to the conversation Mom had with Mrs. Boggs) Mrs. Bogs said that when her husband came home with that ham, he was grinning from ear to ear! Her children were very excited. Their prayers had been answered... Mrs. Boggs told my mother that never again would they tell their children that they couldn't have someting for lack of money. She said it was a great lesson of the power of prayer for all of their family.
