Condolence: Leland was great - I remember the National CR Staff voicing how they learned from Leland and his wisdom - He made people feel calm, and like they mattered. He was also a friend of my wife's family, and they shared stories of Leland's tremendous acts of kindness. A true class act -

Condolence: Reading all the condolences from coworkers show what a cherished mentor and friend Leland was to all that had the pleasure of knowing him. I too was trained at USDA by Leland. He was a gentle giant that offered sound advice and showed courtesy to all. A true gentleman, he will always be thought of with admiration and respect.

Condolence: I knew Leland many years from working at RD and through my family’s friendship with his late wife Linda’s family and her brother Denis. Leland was a kind Christian gentleman who treated all fairly. He was one of those rare individuals who have the power to light up your life for a few minutes every time you spoke to him. He had a dedicated desire to help people that served him well as a public servant and we could all learn from his example. He had a quiet sense of humor delivered with that rich deep voice that could make you laugh and that we will all miss. He gave wise counsel in a calm matter-of-fact tone whenever it was asked of him. His legacy is he will be fondly remembered and his memory cherished by all who knew him. With sympathy and prayers for his family.

Condolence: Leland was my first supervisor when I started with Farmers Home Administration (now Rural Development). Being a 'kid' fresh from college, in a new town, could've been a bit overwhelming. But with his patience and guiding hand, he became like a surrogate father to me. I am honored to have known him and that my two sons got the privilege as well. Leland was the persona of what I strived to become as an USDA employee. Leland always had time to listen and give wise counsel. He was a true blessing and will be missed. God Bless the family, loved ones, and friends at this time. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
