Obituary for Russell Scott Porterfield

Russell Scott Porterfield, 46, of 2nd St., Weston passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at home. He was born in Richwood on March 8, 1972, to his parents John and Phyllis Porterfield of Jane Lew. He is also survived by his sister Amy Campbell and husband Ty, niece Payton Campbell all of Jane Lew, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Russell graduated from Lewis County High School and Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. He played football in high school and rugby in college. He loved books, movies, writing poetry and sports. He video-taped many sporting events at LCHS and wrote the “Peanut Gallery” for the Weston Democrat. He also was an avid Steeler fan. For the past five years he was employed at William R Sharpe Hospital as a programmer.
A private service will be held at a later date. “ To lose a friend is the greatest of all losses.” By: Syrus.
