Wanda Gay Powers Mowery, 77, of 124 First Street Weston went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at her residence following a battle with cancer. She was born in Quarrier, WV on December 12, 1937: daughter of the late Orville Binion and Alma (Kiser) Binion. Wanda first married Thomas Powers, who preceded her in death in 1991. She then married Minter Mowery, who also preceded her in death in 2013.
Mrs. Mowery is survived by three daughters: Debra (Gene) Persinger of Linn, Kathy Carter of Weston and Celia (David) Radcliff of Horner, and two sons: Tommy (Jo Lynn) Powers of Buckhannon and Kerry Powers of Jane Lew. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Cody and Christopher Powers, Aaron and Cameron Radcliff, John Ryan Carter, Wanda Messick and Jamie and Andy Persinger and 12 great grandchildren: Paige Powers, Bryan Radcliff, Emily, Camden and Ty Messick, Ewan and Caleb Smith, Jada, Kole and Duke Persinger and Jobe and Jerec Loudin. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and two husbands, Wanda was preceded in death by one daughter: Paula Jean Castle and two sisters: Kathryn Caudill and Jean Walters.
Mrs. Mowery was a glassworker with the Louie and Jane Lew Glass Factories of Lewis County. She also was a sitter at Crestview Manor Nursing Home of Jane Lew, WV. She attended the Lost Creek Church of God. Wanda was a volunteer at the Food Pantry and enjoyed crafting and writing poems.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Randall Hughes officiating. Interment will follow services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew, WV. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Wanda may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.
