Virginia O.  Jewell (Summers)
Virginia O. Jewell, 96, formerly of Old Route 33 Horner passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in Crestview Nursing Home of Jane Lew following an extended illness. She was born in Lewis County on November 9, 1915: daughter of the late Creed Summers and Dona (Duncan) Summers. She married William Ramsey Jewell, II, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Jewell is survived by two granddaughters: Delesa Haught and husband Mike of Weston and Christina Booker and husband Robert of Cross Lanes, WV and six great grandchildren: Crystal (Joel)Revis, Emily (Chad) Monepenny, Macie Haught, Tony Sotelo, Erica Booker and Sam Booker. She is also survived by three brothers: Robert Creed Summers of Horner, Lynn Duncan Summers and Marl Junior Summers both of Medina, OH and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, William, Mrs. Jewell was preceded in death by one son : William Ramsey Jewell, III and two brothers: Forrest Darrel Summers and Maple Highland Summers.
Mrs. Jewell was a long time dairy farmer on Skin Creek in Lewis County. She was a member of the Horner United Methodist Church. Most of her years, she lived in Lewis County until they lost their farm to the Stonewall Jackson Lake, where they moved and resided in Good Hope, WV. While there she was active in the New Bethel United Methodist Church and CEOS.
During her years in Lewis County, Mrs. Jewell was the founder of the Vandalia 4-H Club, over a 50 year member of the Vandalia Farm Women’s Club (CEOS) and a Lewis County Belle for the Folk Festival. She was an avid gardener and animal lover.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Friday, December 30, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Dwayne Brown officiating. Interment will follow services in the Broad Run Cemetery of Jane Lew, WV. On-line condolences may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.
