Ruth Grace (Chapman) Finster, 92, of 215 Orchard Street, Weston, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Crestview Manor in Jane Lew, following a ten- week illness.She was born on December 12, 1923, the only daughter of Luther M. Chapman and Wilma (Brown) Chapman. On December 31, 1947, she married Dana M. Finster, and they celebrated 25 years together when he preceded her in death on March 12, 1973.In 2005, at a 1942 Weston High School class reunion, she reunited with a very dear friend and classmate, R. Dean Gray of Beverly, West Virginia. For the last ten years, he remained the love of her life and they shared many precious days together.
Mrs. Finster is survived by her daughter, Diana (Mike) Wimer, Weston, WV, and her son, Dana (Nancy) Finster of Roanoke, WV. She was blessed with four loving grandchildren: Shane (Erica Gee) Finster, Dena (Kenneth) Kline, April (Mike) Shackleford, and Bryan (Monica) Wimer. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren: Gavin and Brooklyn Kline, Evan and Mason Shackleford, Eli and Sawyer Wimer, and Whitney Thomas.She is also survived by one brother, Lawrence M. Chapman (Dale Chapman, deceased) of Weston, and one sister-in-law, Eileen Finster, of Grove City, Ohio. She is also reunited in Heaven with one brother and sister-in-law, Edgar L. (Mary Catherine) Chapman.
She was retired from the Lewis County Assessor’s Office.Mrs. Finster had been a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church since 1935, and until her death, was the oldest living member of her church family. She was also active in the United Methodist Women’s Group and loved baking cakes and pies for church activities and folks within the church. She was a Past Matron of Weston Chapter No. 40, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Red Hat Society, and the Lewis County Senior Citizens.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, 730 N. Main Avenue, Weston, WV, on Sunday, March 13, 2016 from 4-8:00 P.M. Funeral service and celebration of her life will be held at the Broad Street United Methodist Church, 210 Broad Street, Weston, WV, on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 11:00 A.M., with Rev. Richard Justice officiating.
