Obituary for Melvin J. Langford

Melvin J.  Langford
Melvin J. Langford, 88, of Hacker’s Creek Road Buckhannon passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at his home following an extended illness. He was born in Glenville on February 16, 1929: son of the late Homer Langford and Bessie Mae (Minnigh) Langford. On November 6, 1948, he married Hilda Mae (Gillespie) Langford, who survives.
Mr. Langford is also survived by two daughters: Nancy Locke Squires of Jane Lew and Joy Langford Madore of Seiverville, TN, one son: Larry Langford of Hackers Creek, three grandchildren: Danny Langford, Sara Simmons and Elizabeth Madore Lewis and seven great grandchildren: Sawyer Issac Lewis, Faith, Hope and Grace Langford and Paige, Elias and Callie Simmons. He is also survived by one sister: Naomi Beall of Glenville and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by two sons: Melvin Lee and Clarence Ray Langford, one brother: Homer Paul Langford and five sisters: Ruth Greenlief, Geneva Wolfe, Rosalee Hess, Maxine Jenkins and Lela Langford.
Mr. Langford was glassworker at Ludwig Glass of Glenville and Louie, Colonial and WV Glass Specialty Companies of Weston. He was a member of the Berlin United Methodist Church. One of Melvin’s greatest joys was training horses including “Bum, the Wonder Horse” his most famous one.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Marvin Stalnaker officiating. Interment will follow services in the Stalnaker Cemetery of Glenville, WV. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Melvin may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to West Virginia Hospice 92 W Main Street Buckhannon, WV 26201.
