Obituary for Betty Lee Slaughter (Butcher)

Betty Lee (Butcher) Slaughter, 90, of Weston passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 in Seller’s Personal Care Home of Jane Lew following an extended illness. She was born Weston on April 27, 1926: daughter of the late Rosa A. (Butcher) Grogg. On October 11, 1947, she married James Edward Slaughter, who preceded her in death on January 19, 2009
Mrs. Slaughter is survived by one son: James Edward Slaughter, Jr. of Cobb’s Creek, VA, three grandsons: Matthew, David and Timothy Slaughter and 4 great grandchildren. Betty is also survived by a special friend: Bill Heaster, her loving caregiver: Sherri Sellers and a loving cousin: Patsy Westfall, who loved and cared for the last several years. In addition to her mother and husband, James, Betty was preceded in death by one sister: Pauline Jack.
Betty was employed at the Grant Store, Home Industry and was a faithful employee of Kane’s Hardware, where she retired after 26 years. She was a member of the McCann’s Run United Methodist Church where she had served as church secretary for several years. She was a graduate of Weston High School with the class of 1946.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Sunday, January 22, 2017 from 3-5 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Becky Van Stavern officiating. Interment will follow services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew, WV. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Betty may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.
