Annetta Ruth Simms, 82, of 330 Mid Avenue Weston passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017 in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston following an extended illness. She was born in Glenville on April 21, 1935: daughter of the late Claudius Ray Brown and Rebecca Ellen (Settle) Brown. On January 5, 1955, she married Glenn A. Simms, Sr., who preceded her in death on February 27, 2008.
Mrs. Simms is survived by three children: Glenn A. Simms, Jr. and wife Sunny of Palm Bay, FL, Claudius Wayne “Chauncey” Simms of Weston and Donna Darlene Gutwein of Buckhannon, nine grandchildren: Travis Riffle, Amelia Simms, Aaron Simms, Brandi Walton, Joseph Walton, Nikki Simms, Adam Simms, Cody Simms, and Chance Simms and five great grandchildren: Caley Simms, Conner Simms, Cowen Simms, Rylan Riffle and Kaidin Wagner. She is also survived by three sisters: Burldeane Stein, Aretta Grace McHenry and Edna Brown all of Weston and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Glenn, Annetta was preceded in death by four brothers: Donald Hall Brown, Luther Wright Brown, Ernest Ray Brown and Louis Richard Brown and three sisters: Marjorie Foster, Clair Isabelle Corathers and Sarah Brown.
Mrs. Simms retired as a psychiatric aide with Weston State Hospital. She was a member of Haleville Union Mission Church. Annetta’s hobbies included gardening, all kinds of puzzles and listening to blue grass and gospel music. She was an avid West Virginia University fan and especially loved basketball.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Sarah Weaver officiating. Interment will follow services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew, WV. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Annetta may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.
