Obituary for Ida Belle Davisson

Ida Belle Davisson, 85, of Glenville, WV passed away on Monday, November 7, 2016 at United Hospital Center of Bridgeport following an extended illness. She was born in Louise, WV on May 28, 1931; daughter of the late Roscoe Newman Brady, Sr. and Mary Orvetta (Behrman) Brady. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by two brothers: George “Jack” Anderson Brady and John Franklin Brady; and her husband of 58 years, Ersel Clayton Davisson, whom she married on August 12, 1950.
Mrs. Davisson is survived by one daughter: Judy Leggett and companion, Robby Conley, of Glenville, one son: Tom Davisson and wife, Toni, of Anderson, SC and three grandchildren: Andrew Davisson, Jared Leggett and Brandon Leggett. She is also survived by one brother: Roscoe Newman Brady, Jr. and Marge Brown of Medina, OH, one sister: Gertrude Mae Smith of New Milton, WV, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Davisson was a 1949 graduate of Weston High School. She worked for a time as a bookkeeper and store clerk and later was the co-owner and operator of Pine Manor Grocery and Glenville Sport Shop with her husband, Ersel. Always a devoted wife and mother, her hobbies included crocheting, reading, photography, and going to yard sales. Ida Belle was a kind and generous person who always put the needs of others before her own, even through years of suffering with the pain of rheumatoid arthritis. Nothing gave her more joy than having a personally crocheted item, special photo, a great yard sale find, or a favorite dish or dessert to share with a friend or loved one. She was a Baptist by faith.
She was a champion for her children, rarely, if ever, missing a parent-teacher conference, always promoting polite behavior, encouraging them to do their best work, and to make the most of their education. She was very proud of her grandsons who had all recently completed their college degrees and started careers in their chosen fields.
The family would like to thank long time friends and care givers Joyce Frashure and Karen Shackleford for their many years of love and devotion to Ida Belle.
Ida Belle’s request for cremation has been honored. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Gilmer County Senior Citizen’s Center in Glenville, WV with Dr. Alfred T. Billips officiating. A private interment will be held at the Carder Cemetery of Vadis, WV at a later date. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Ida Belle may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.
