Willis Ray “Bill” Linger, 81, of Weston was called home to Heaven on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 6:15 a.m. Bill married the love of his life Bernice (Skidmore) Linger on January 14, 1977 and together they enjoyed a beautiful life. Bill was the son of the late Porter and Geneva (Rogers) Linger of Jane Lew.
Bill is survived by a daughter and three sons: Wilodene (Jon) Martin of Hurricane, WV, Michael (Denise) Linger of Glen Dale, WV, Douglas Linger and Donald (Melissa) Linger both of Leon, WV and also survived by a step-daughter and two stepsons: Carolyn (Richard) Hamric , Tim (Leann) Kerns, and Rusty (Cathy) Kerns all of Jane Lew, WV. Bill was blessed with 9 grandchildren: Ashley Martin, Joshua (Jenny) Linger, Steven (Elizabeth) Linger, Paul Linger, Anthony (Bekah) Linger, Zac Linger, Bradley Linger, Drew (Tiffany) Linger and Marie Linger and 6 step grandchildren: Nathan (Bianca) Hamric, Lindsay (Wesley) Marsh, Valerie (Drake) Jenkins, J.R. (Stephanie) Kerns, Chelsea Hines and Ryan Kerns. In addition, he is survived by 7 great grandchildren: McKenzie Linger, Penny Linger, Haley Oxley, Brooke Oxley, Delilah Linger, Erika Ullom and Abigail Ullom and 3 step great grandchildren: Oliver and Elliott Hamric and Parker Hines. Bill is survived by his only sibling, Audra Lowther of Weston and preceded in death by a ½ sister: Virginia Burroughs.
Mr. Linger graduated from Jane Lew High School with the class of 1953 and was a Christian by faith. He worked at a Kroger Store in Ripley, WV as a manager before retiring. He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1958. He is a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church of Weston, WV. In addition, he was a member of the Weston Lion’s Club and a lifetime member of the Lewis County Emergency Medical Service. He was a past member of the Lewis County Shrine Club, Chapter#40 Order of Eastern Star and a 32nd Degree Mason.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking and could always be found rooting for his favorite teams: WVU Mountaineers, Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Richard Justice officiating. Interment will follow services in the Friendship Cemetery of Berlin, WV. Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Lewis County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Broad Street United Methodist Church 210 Broad Street Weston, WV 26452.
