Elsie Maxine Slaughter, 89, of Weston passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Holbrook On The Hill Nursing Home of Buckhannon where she has been living since October 2012 following an extended illness. She was born November 12, 1926 to the late Floyd E. and Victoria Keith. Maxine married Carl L. Slaughter on March 18, 1944 who preceded her in death on September 7, 2010.
She is the mother of Ronald Slaughter(deaceased) (Kathy) of Weston, Patricia Martin (Larry) of N. Ridgeville, OH, Mary Katherine Novak (deceased) (Don) of Deltaville, VA, Charles Slaughter (Sharon) of Weston and Lisa Stover of Rock Cave. She was the grandmother to David Slaughter (deaceased), Sherry Lynn Slaughter (deceased), Brian Robertson, Kimberly Reiss, Edna Rush and Charlotte Dawson and great grandmother to Timothy Radcliff, Amy Radcliff, Gabriella Lederer and great-great grandmother to four and an aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Maxine was one of eleven children of which only one brother is still living, Fay Keith (Darlene) of Uniontown, OH. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Mildred Barnett, Floyd R. Keth, Breighton Keith, Vergie Riffle, Ruth (Veneman) Archibald, Mary Aladine Marangoni, Kelda Keith, Joan Singleton and Rondal Keith.
Mrs. Slaughter was employed by Brannon Cleaners for many years and later worked as an assistant at the Word of Life Christian School where she loved helping the kids with reading and spelling. She wanted to see all her children graduate from high school since she dropped out in her senior year and surprised her family by graduating with cap and gown in 1996. She was also employed at Reidboard Brothers in Buckhannon and Alcon Label of Weston.
Maxine worked at Brannon’s Cleaners for many yaers and got to know many people around Weston. She was a beautiful seamstress and applied needle and thread to many articles of clothing to a large number of local residents.
She was very devoted Christian and attended the Word of Life Ministries Church. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Philip Strauss officiating. Interment will follow services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew, WV. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Word of Life Ministries, P.O. Box 230, Weston, WV 26452.
