Mildred Wickland, 91, of Court Avenue Weston passed away on Friday, June 12, 2015 in Fairmont General Hospital of Fairmont, WV following an extended illness. She was born in Weston on October 21, 1923: daughter of the late Wetzel Goff and Alma (Beeghley) Goff. On July 19, 1947, she married Howard E. Wickland, who preceded her in death on April 1, 1998.
Mrs. Wickland is survived by one daughter: Mary Anne Postlethwait and husband Ray of Jane Lew, two sons: Stephen A. Wickland and wife Joyce and John E. Wickland and wife Diane both of Bridgeport, six grandchildren: Christopher B. Wickland, Chad B. Wickland, Michael S. Wickland, Kelly Sholl, Jeffrey E. Wickland and Ryan Postlethwait and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother: Kenneth Wade Goff of Audubon, PA and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Wickland was a teacher and taught in Walkersville, Jane Lew and Bruceton Mills and was a substitute teacher for the Lewis County School system. She was a graduate of Sistersville High School with the “class of 1941” and a graduate of West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and English.
Mildred was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weston where she was a Sunday school teacher, a Deacon, member of the Prayer group and charter member of the AAUW. She was also a volunteer with the Teresa Snaith Auxiliary of Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Monday, June 15, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of Weston with Reverend Kenneth Miller officiating. Interment will follow services in Weston Masonic Cemetery. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Mildred may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.
