Elder "Stanley" Leon  Keen
Elder “Stanley” Leon Keen, 77, of 12 McGary Avenue Weston passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at his home following an extended illness. He was born in Westmoreland, TN on November 16, 1936: son of the late Ardie Wilson Keen and Velma Mae (King) Keen. On August 18, 1956, Elder Keen married Dorothy Lou (Meador) Keen, who survives.
He is also survived by two daughters: Pamela Jean (Jesse) Driver of Maryland and Shannon Renee (Rick) Thomas of Horner and four grandchildren: Clifford Dewayne Driver, Jennifer Michelle (Matt) Simpson, Connor Levi Thomas and Ethan Hunter Thomas. Stanley is also survived by one brother-in-law: Don Curtis of Westmoreland, TN and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Elder Keen was preceded in death by one sister: Patsy Ann Curtis.
In the words of Elder Keen:I was saved by the grace of God, July 8, 1949 and united with Rocky Mound Missionary Baptist Church. God called me to preach in October of 1957, but I did not make it known until October of 1964. I preached my first sermon on the first Sunday night on November in 1964. I was ordained in 1965. I was given work on Route 2, Camden West Virginia in 1974. We started services in our present-day church building in 1984. We moved to West Virginia July 22, 1984. The Churchville Old Time Missionary Baptist Church was organized on June 18, 1988, with an arm extended from Rocky Mound Baptist Missionary Church in Macon County, Tennessee. Elder Keen also had radio broadcasts at WKKW and WBUC in West Virginia for over 10 years .He was very active in Bible study and wrote many in depth Bible study papers which he used to teach youth and adults alike in the word of the Lord.
Elder Keen’s second calling was his ability to make furniture. He also loved music and was blessed to be able play many musical instruments and passed that gift on by teaching many others how to play and enjoy music. In Tennessee, Mr. Keen was an accomplished baseball player and was a Babe Ruth Baseball coach and was also an accomplished tennis player and was a tennis coach to many youth in Lewis and Upshur Counties. Elder Keen was involved with youth in many ways- through his ministry, through his music and also through his gift of teaching tennis and baseball. He was a member of the Lafayette Masonic Lodge # 543 F. & A.M. of Lafayette, TN.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Monday, October 20, 2014 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. from the Churchville Old-Time Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Ricky White, Elder J. E. Shoulders and Brother Jim Carder officiating. Elder Keen will lie in state from 10 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.at the church on Tuesday.
