Obituary for Arthur D'Angelo

Arthur  D'Angelo
Arthur D’Angelo, 87, of 20 Riverview Heights Weston passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2013 in the West Virginia Veteran’s Nursing Facility of Clarksburg following an extended illness. He was born in Moween, PA on September 30, 1926: son of the late Carmine D’Angelo and Concetta (D’Alessandro) D’Angelo. On June 9, 1947, he married Antonina “Nina” (Mondello) D’Angelo, who preceded him in death on February 27, 2010.
Mr. D’Angelo is survived by three children: Diana Casto and husband Bob of Weston, Robert D’Angelo and partner Kenneth Piner of Arlington, VA and Dennis D’Angelo and wife Lynne of Middletown, CT. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren: Christopher Hallock of Somerville, MA, Michelle and Kenny Atchison of Weston, and Ryan Casto of Weston and Casey Casto of New York, NY and two great-great grandchildren: Nicholas and Anthony Atchison. He is also survived by one sister: Mary (D’Angelo )Goblick of Pittsburgh, PA and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife Nina, Mr. D’Angelo was preceded in death by three brothers: Enrico, Nick and William D’Angelo and one sister: Isabelle (D’Angelo) Veri.
Mr. D’Angelo was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served in Oran, Algeria, and Palermo, Sicily, Italy during World War II where he met his bride-to-be Nina at a dance near Palermo’s Mondello Beach. He was a master mechanic by profession with Sabin Brothers based in Connecticut and helped to construct I-79 through West Virginia. Arthur enjoyed his family above all and caring for them and the love of his life Nina. He also enjoyed working around the house and in the yard and cooking spaghetti and discussing who’s sauce was better and sharing stories from the adventures of his life over a post-dinner glass of wine. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren playing baseball, soccer and other sports. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Weston.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be recited on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. from St. Patrick Catholic Church of Weston with Reverend J. Stephen Vallelonga as celebrant. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. from the funeral home chapel.
