Willa Delores Bailey, 83, formerly of Jackson's Mill passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018 in Crestview Manor Nursing Home of Jane Lew following a brief illness. She was born in Lewis County on June 29, 1935: daughter of the late John Metzgar and Alma (Oldaker) Metzgar and her step mom, who raised her, the late Alma Day Shaver Metzgar. On June 10, 1955, she married George H. Bailey, who preceded her in death on March 9, 2012.
Mrs. Bailey is survived by three children: Kim Peck and husband Roger of Overland Park, KS, Janet Summers and husband Mike of Fairmont and John H. Bailey, PhD and wife Julia Griggs Bailey of San Jose, CA and three grandchildren: Colin Bailey Peck, Olivia Jane Bailey and Anika Deloris Bailey. She is also survived by one brother: James Metzgar of Weston and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband George, Willa was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert and Richard Metzgar.
Mrs. Bailey was a graduate of Jane Lew High School. She then attended and graduated from beautician school in Akron, Ohio. She returned to Weston and became a beautician at Weston State Hospital for a while. Her next job took her to the Alkahn Label Factory where she was a weaver. Later, Willa returned to the Weston State Hospital where she worked as a manager in housekeeping.
She was a member of McCann’s Run United Methodist Church where she was a member of the WSCS of the Church. Willa and Sona Dempsey and Nancy Montgomery made up the gospel singing group SOS (Sisters of the Savior) and sang for the Lord in many places.
Willa had many hobbies including needlework and making crafts, reading, square dancing and working in her flower garden. Her children said that she was a great cook as well. Willa will be missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Ron Brown officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew, WV. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Willa may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.
