Genevieve Lee Ransom, 87, of Goosepen Road Roanoke passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born in Frame, WV on November 10, 1930: daughter of the late Robert Sherman Young and Martha Elen (Blackwell) Young. On September 24, 1962, Genevieve married Lowell E. Ransom, who preceded her in death on October 31, 1982.
Mrs. Ransom is survived by two daughters: Martha Glendale Lowther and husband Charles of Roanoke and Charlotte Ann Posey and husband Jim of Weston, two sons: James Robert Adkins and wife Bonnie of Hamlin and Steven Dee Adkins and wife Tina of Charleston, 10 grandchildren: Angel Shackleford, Jimmy Posey, Chuck Lowther, Susan Nicole Adkins, Steven Adkins, Amanda Adkins, Scott Adkins, Rochelle Adkins, Christine Adkins and Chuck Birch and 5 great grandchildren: Brianna Renee Long, Trinity D. Lowther, Charles Dalton Lowther, Gage St Clair and Kampton St Clair. She is also survived by one brother: Robert Young of Oregon, one sister: Arlene Smith of Florida and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Lowell, Genevieve was preceded in death by one sister: Loretta Zornes.
Mrs. Ransom was licensed practical nurse with Charleston Area Medical Center. Her hobbies included word puzzles and reading. Genevieve was always working.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with her son James Robert Adkins conducting services. Interment will follow services in the Hiney Church Cemetery Gilmer County, WV. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Genevieve may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.
