Obituary for Billy Joe ""Dody"" Cavins

Billy Joe ""Dody"" Cavins
Billy Joe “Dody” Cavins, 67, of 5th Street Weston passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018 in the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center of Clarksburg following a brief illness. He was born in Parkersburg on October 12, 1950: son of the late Billie Jack Cavins and Betty Jane (Fluharty) Cavins.
Mr. Cavins is survived by three children: Heather Cavins Montgomery and husband Steve of Jane Lew and Jamie Dallas Cavins and Dustin Storm Cavins both of Weston and six grandchildren: Kennedy Cavins and Madisyn, Alexis, Lora, Anthony and Brittany Montgomery. He is also survived by one brother: Denver Cavins and wife Carol of Acworth, GA and five nieces and nephews: Shane, Christy and Brent Cavins and Ryan and Michael Hunsucker. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by one sister: Janie Hunsucker.
It is no exaggeration to say that the earth has lost a rare man. Billy “Dody” Cavins gave the world more than he took from it. Those of us who loved him feel a sorrow for those who never had the privilege. Billy made every conversation an adventure. He possessed something almost beyond ordinary humanity that caused those around him to experience the fun of living.
Dody was also ornery. He could tell jokes, laugh at himself, and make even the most pitiful circumstances not only bearable, but enjoyable. Being with him made you know it would be okay. Billy was one of those men who realized early, things are not the goal in this life. He seldom asked for anything back from others. He felt he needed little. Loving came easily to him. He taught us that above all the turmoil of daily living, we have to remember the life we have here is so very short. Things will rust away. The love we have for you Dody will never pass away. See you on Resurrection Morning!
Billy’s cremation wishes are being honored and a good old fashion Irish Wake will be held at a later date. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Billy may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.
