Obituary for Cecil Ira Dempsey

Cecil Ira  Dempsey
Cecil Ira Dempsey, 86, of McCanns Run Jane Lew passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at his home surrounded by loved ones following an extended illness. He was born in Ahoskie, NC on March 11, 1932: son of the late Ira Dempsey and Urswla (Ward ) Dempsey. On June 22, 1972, he married Sona Jane (Allman) Dempsey, who survives.
Mr. Dempsey is also survived by one son: Shaun Dempsey and wife Sheila of Jane Lew. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by two brothers: Tillery and Joseph Dempsey and one sister: Catherine (Dempsey) Parker.
Mr. Dempsey was a retired dozer operator. He was a member of the McCanns Run United Methodist Church where he was a trustee and a deacon. Cecil loved to play golf, baseball, was a fly fisherman and a boat fisherman and enjoyed deer hunting. He also enjoyed four-wheeler riding with family and friends. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict in Germany. Mr. Dempsey was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. A “Going Home” funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. from the McCanns Run Methodist Church with Evangelist Jerry Garrett, Reverend Ron Brown, Pastor Ralph Miller and Pator Jimmy Burroughs officiating. Interment will follow services in the McCanns Run Church Cemetery of Jane Lew, WV. Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Lewis County Honor Guard.
