Goldamurl (Jenkins) Ireland, 92, longtime resident of Weston, WV, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018 in Genesis Healthcare of Glenville following an extended illness. She was born in Orton, WV on June 29, 1925: daughter of the late Arch and Lena (Smith) Jenkins. Goldamurl married Carl Brooks Young (deceased) on December1, 1944 and later married David Atchison (deceased) on October 2, 1995.
Goldamurl is survived by two sons: Robert J. Young and wife Lynn of Burbank, OH and Larry Young and wife Debbie of Clinton, OH and three grandchildren: Danny Young of Creston, OH, Lonny (Jeanne-Marie)Young of Westerville, OH and Patty (Troy) Mitchell of Wooster, OH and five great grandchildren: Emma, Abby, Natalie, Lilly and Samantha Young. She is also survived by 2 step sons, one step daughter, 4 step granddaughters, 1 step grandson, 2 step great grandsons, 3 step great granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are 2 sisters: Glena (Wayne) Green of LaGrange, OH and Geraldine Cogar of Weston, WV, 3 brothers: Charles (Wilda) Jenkins of Normantown, WV, Jack Jenkins of Parkersburg, WV and Golden (Betty) Jenkins of Glenville, WV. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son: Carl Brooks Young, Jr. in 1945, five brothers: Marvin, Marple, Eugene, Emerson, and Gordon Jenkins and two sisters: Ressie Jenkins and Gretta Hardman.
“Goldie” was a beloved mother and grandmother. She was dedicated to her work at Weston State Hospital where she was a nurse for many years before retiring in March 1987. She was a member of Mount Carmel Church in Gilmer Co. She loved the colors red and green and always bought a red car, the brighter red, the better! Later in her life, she took up crocheting and completed many projects without a pattern. She would write birthday poems for family members. Dancing was a favorite recreation of hers, and it was at a dance that she met her last husband, Dave. She was a strong lady with a kind heart and will be missed by many.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 12:00 noon from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Russell Furr officiating. Interment will follow services at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane, WV. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Goldamurl may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.
