Maxine Erma Wade Lia, 91, of Leesburg, VA went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Glenville Genesis Nursing Home after a short illness. She was born in Lewis County on November 9, 1926: the daughter of the late Ermine D. and Bertha (Haught) Wade.
Maxine graduated from Weston High School and went to work for Western Union in the Senate Building in Washington, D.C. In August of 1958, she married Augustine “Gus” F. Lia, who died in June of 2008. They spent a lot of time Ballroom dancing, traveling, walking and trying to keep in shape. Maxine lived with her niece, Carolyn and her husband Asa for several years after her stroke. After a broken hip, she went to Genesis for therapy.
Maxine is survived by 2 nieces: Carolyn (Asa) Keith and Rebecca (Dennis) Moore, 3 nephews: Gerald (Jane) Wade, Richard Wade and Ermine Daniel (Debra) Wade, several great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. In addition to her parents and husband, Gus, Maxine was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Ervin (Dick) Wade and Glen A. (Sarah) Wade, 2 sisters: Ruth E. (Hank) Straley and her twin sister: Madeline B. (Shorty) Martinez.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Lance Linden officiating. Interment will follow in the Culpepper National Cemetery of Culpepper, VA on Friday at 1 p.m. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Maxine may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.
