Donley Delano Helmick, 83, of US Highway 19 N Jane Lew passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston following a sudden illness. He was born in Braxton County on March 26, 1934: son of the late Arthur Burdell Helmick and Orpha (Gregory) Helmick. On March 9, 1955, he married Minnie Naomi (McCartney) Helmick, who preceded him in death on September 25, 2012.
Mr. Helmick is survived by four daughters: Donna (Howard) Kniceley of Weston, Debra (Jack) Miller of McWhorter, Rebecca Wolfe of Jane Lew and Christina (Jason) Werner of Clarksburg, one son: Martin Helmick of Jane Lew, two grandchildren: Ashley Dunne and Tasha Helmick and five great grandchildren: Scott and Madison Werner, Peyton and Logan Espigh and Jasmine Walk and one on the way. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews In addition to his parents and wife Minnie, Donley was preceded in death by five brothers and seven sisters.
Mr. Helmick was a retired psychiatric aide at Weston State Hospital. He enjoyed hunting mushrooms, digging ginseng and going to auctions. The thing he loved the most was spending time with his family. Mr. Helmick was the last surviving member of 13 siblings.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Russell Furr officiating. Interment will follow services in the Broad Run Church Cemetery of Jane Lew, WV. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Donley may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.
