James Edward Wyant, 72, of 805 Kunst Drive Weston passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 in Fairmont Regional Hospital of Fairmont, WV following an extended illness. He was born in Weston on May 23, 1945: son of the late Homer Wyant and Bonnie Jean Fultineer. On July 20, 1964, he married Janet L. (Turner) Wyant, who preceded him in death on November 24, 2006.
Mr. Wyant is survived by two daughters: Kimberly Jean Curry and husband J. Scott Curry of Kicheloe, WV and Mistie Wyant of Weston, one son: James Michael Wyant and girlfriend, Bobbi Irons of Fairmont, seven grandchildren: Krista Turner, Cassandra Atha, Carson Wyant, John Wyant, Katona Hughes, Daniel Hughes and Brandon Irons and one great grandchild, Jase Turner and one on the way. He is also survived by one brother: Denny Wyant of Weston, one step brother: Bill Fultineer of Weston and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Janet, James was preceded in death by one sister: Carol Woodall.
Mr. Wyant was a deputy sheriff in Lewis County for several years. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served as a Staff Sergeant during Vietnam. He served with the CSC 2nd Battalion 12th Cavalry 1st Cavalry Division FORSCOM and was attached to the United States Marines in Germany and received the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Silver Service Star and Army Commendation Medal w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters. James was the Post Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart of Weston and Service Officer of the Weston VFW Chapter 1976. Mr. Wyant was proud to serve his country.
Mr. Wyant was a member of Mt Carmel Baptist Church and volunteered at Our Neighbors for several years.
At Mr. Wyant’s request there will be no visitation and he will be cremated, just as his beloved wife, Janet, was. At a later date, there will be a graveside service at the West Virginia National Cemetery at Pruntytown, WV with full military honors provided by the United States Army and the Lewis County Honor Guard and a presentation will be made by the Weston Military Order of the Purple Heart.
