Mary Lou Holden, 76, of Old Mill Road Jane Lew passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 at her home following an extended illness. She was born in Gilmer County on June 22, 1941: daughter of the late Rex E. Matheny and Cora E. (Carroll) Matheny and was raised in Crawford, WV. On December 23, 1961, she married Hayward “Jiggs” Holden, who preceded her in death on May 31, 1996.
Mrs. Holden is survived by two daughters: Glenna Johnston and husband Dan of Berlin and Glenda Weber and husband Tim of Jackson Mill, one son: Edward Holden of Jackson Mill, seven grandchildren: Joshua Rittenhouse, Justin and Casey Rittenhouse, Cassandra Johnston, Marissa Johnston, Eddie Moody, Eliza Weber and Cassy Weber and four great grandchildren: Brayden Rittenhouse, Kenleigh Rittenhouse and Lauren and Maggie Wyatt. She is also survived by one sister: Wilma Wine of Jackson Mill and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband Jiggs, Mary Lou was preceded in death by four brothers: Ray,Carl, Ralph and Robert Matheny.
Mrs. Holden was a housewife. She was a member of the McCann’s Run United Methodist Church where she was a choir member. She was a member of the Jackson’s Mill Fire Department Auxillary. Her hobbies included camping and canning. She also loved sewing, collecting bugs and the outdoors. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A private viewing was held at the family’s wishes and a private interment followed in the Peterson Cemetery of Weston, WV.
