Obituary for Thomas Anthony Coughlin

Thomas Anthony Coughlin, 87, of Weston, formerly of Cottage Avenue, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 in Stonewall Jackson Memorial of Weston following an extended illness. He was born in Elkins on June 4, 1930: son of the late James J. Coughlin and Anna (Dean) Coughlin. On September 8, 1956, he married Plina Alice (Wyatt) Coughlin, who preceded him in death on February 16, 2001.
Mr. Coughlin is survived by two daughters: Kim Foster and husband Randy of Weston and Chris Weilmuenster and husband Peter of Thornton, CO, one son: Mark Coughlin and wife Cathy of Hendersonville, NC, one granddaughter: Stephanie Charnoplosky and two great grandchildren: Mia Lee Charnoplosky and Anthony William Charnoplosky, III. He is also survived by one sister: Mary Jo Giles of Elkins and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, Plina, Tom was preceded in death by four brothers: Germain, Edward, Francis and Bernard Coughlin.
Mr. Coughlin was employed with C & P Telephone Company and AT&T where he started as a lineman and ended as a supervisor for Pay Phone Services at his retirement in 1986. He was a member St. Patrick Catholic Church of Weston where he had been Head of Parish Council and a Lecture. Tom was active with Knight of Columbus Council #1415 of Weston, where he was past Grand Knight. He was also active with the Weston Jaycees, past President of the St Pats School PTA and active with C & P Telephone local activities. Mr. Coughlin was a veteran of the United States Army as a corporal during the Korean Conflict where he was stationed in England.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday from the funeral home chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. from St. Patrick Church of Weston with Reverend James R. DeViese as celebrant. Interment will follow services in the St. Brendan’s Catholic Church Cemetery of Elkins, WV. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Randolph County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council #1415 of Weston 210 Center Avenue Weston, WV 26452 or your local Knights of Columbus.
