Shirley Elaine Collins Starcher, 70, of Grantsville passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 in Gilmer County following a sudden illness. She was born in Vadis, WV on December 4, 1946: daughter of the late Loyal Carl Rinehart and Goldie A. (Burkhammer) Rinehart. On July 3, 1986, she married Richard Starcher, who survives.
She is also survived by one daughter: Christina Arbogast of Weston, three sons: Russell “Rusty” Collins and wife Melissa of Cropwell, AL, Ancil Collins and special friend Virginia Oldaker of Clarksburg and Charles Matthew Collins of Weston, 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. Shirley is also survived by one sister: Wanna Naomi Lattea and husband William of Mannington and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter: Joyce Ocheltree, one son: Daniel Ocheltree, two sisters: Wilma Lattea and Sandra Swiger and a special niece: Candy Butcher.
Shirley was a Psychiatric Certified Registered Nurse and worked at both Weston State Hospital and William A Sharpe Hospital where her last Unit was George II and retired with a combined 25 years of service. Shirley graduated from Glenville State College with a BA degree in Social Work and later graduated from Fairmont University with a Nursing degree. She was a member of the WV and National Nurse’s Association, WV Diabetes Association and past president of the Lewis County Emergency Squad, REACT, and Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital Auxillary. Shirley was active with HOPE Domestic Violence and was a Boy Scout Leader (Webloes). She was a Methodist by faith.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Monday, November 27, 2017 from 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Russell Furr officiating. Interment will follow services in the Weston Masonic Cemetery. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Shirley may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.
