Edna Frances Helmick, 86, of Weston passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 in Seller’s Personal Care Home of Jane Lew following an extended illness. She was born in Orlando, WV on March 1, 1931: daughter of the late Virgil Scarff and Ruby (Smith) Harris. On June 30, 1951, she married Leslie Dale Helmick, who preceded her in death on July 22, 2015.
Mrs. Helmick is survived by one daughter: Debbie Grose and husband Michael of Weston, three sons: Stephen Helmick and companion Diane Harter of Georgetown, David Helmick of Grafton and Kevin Helmick and wife Heather of Fairmont and her and Dale raised Linda Darlene Shoulders of Denver, CO. She is also survived by six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mrs. Helmick is also survived by three sisters: Jean Crook, Joyce Smith and Melanie Chapman all of Weston and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband Dale, Edna was preceded in death by one brother: Larry Marshall Scarff and one sister: Lila June Shoulders.
Mrs. Helmick was a retired psychiatric aide with Weston State Hospital with 25 years of service. She is a member of the First Baptist Church of Weston. Her hobbies include reading and going to yard sales and when she was able, gardening.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Chaplain Jenifer Suehs-Vassel officiating.
