Obituary for Madeline Patricia Attanasio (Varchetto)

Madeline Patricia Attanasio (Varchetto)
Madeline Patricia (Varchetto) Attanasio, 93, formerly of Weston, passed away into the arms of Our Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at St Joseph’s Hospital of Buckhannon, WV. She was born in Elkins, WV on May 25, 1925 to Italian American immigrants, Geateano and Marie (Cename’) Varchetto. Madeline was the youngest of 10 children, all who preceded her in death. She married Nicolas Attanasio on November 30, 1945 in Newark, NJ who preceded her in death in 2009.
She had lived in Elkins, WV and Parsons, WV then moved to Weston, WV where she remained for most of her life. Madeline was a woman of many talents. She was an active member of St Patrick’s Parish for many years. She was also a member and past president of the PTA, home room mother and even the “lunch lady” for a few years at St. Patrick’s school cafeteria. She was also an avid bowler and a cook at the old ValVue Curb Service. Madeline retired as a bookkeeper from Bennett’s Firestone.
Madeline loved to be around family and friends and she loved to garden-she had a green thumb. It was once said that she could put a penny in the ground and something beautiful would grow.
Madeline is survived by four children: Julie Marie Dean of Buckhannon, WV, Jerome Attanasio of Dublin, OH, Jonathan Attanasio of Seattle, WA and Gemma Sims of Stow, OH. She has 8 grandchildren: Robbie Jones, Kristi Jones Roby, Jerrod (J.P.) Attanasio, Tya Renner, Amber Attanasio, Tony Sims, Tres Sims and Ian Sims, 12 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.
Madeline spent her last years as a resident of St. Joseph Nursing Care Facility, where she was well cared for by loving staff and enjoyed her last days. She often entertained the staff with her singing and her sense of humor.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. from St Patrick Church of Weston with Father James R. DeViese, Jr. as celebrant. A graveside service will be held at a later date at St. Bernard’s Church Cemetery on Loveberry, WV.
