Obituary for William Bradford Barnes Sr.
William Bradford Barnes, Sr., 94, of Horner went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 19, 2019 in Crestview Nursing Home of Jane Lew following an extended illness. He was born in Pennsylvania on January 28, 1925: son of the late William Jeffie Barnes and Lola (Mayle) Barnes. On June 10, 1944, he married Mary Alice (Caskie)Barnes, who preceded him in death on January 22, 2005.
Mr. Barnes is survived by one son: James J. Barnes and wife Beth of Horner, one daughter: Linda Lee Shoemake and husband Randall of Stevensville, MI, one daughter-in-law: Diana Barnes of Vandalia, 9 grandchildren: Gary Strope (Debbie), Tammie Lattea (Darius), Luke Barnes (Karen), Laura Kennedy (Robert), J’Aime Shearer (Bill), Marc Barnes (Laura), Anna Carl (Norm), Barry Shoemake (Kelly), and Lee Shoemake (Andi), 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mary Alice, Brad was preceded in death by one son: William Bradford Barnes, Jr. and two sisters: Colena Mayle and Mabel Mayle.
Mr. Barnes , a country bumpkin met his city girl, Mary Alice who would become his wife of 60 years. He went to Detroit during WW II and worked on a government farm that supplied food for the military. Mr. Barnes worked as drywall laborer and later became foreman of his own crew. He remodeled homes before flipping homes was ever thought of. If there was a wall to tear down he would do it. Brad was proud to have passed his skills on to his sons and grandsons.
He was a quiet man of few words but people would stop by just to talk to him because of their ease to talk to him. Brad loved flowers and grew beautiful flowers. It wasn’t unusual for him to stop along the road side and pick a bouquet to take to Mary Alice. She said she didn’t need any flowers for her funeral because Brad brought her all the flowers she would ever need. As life started passing him by he got to enjoy his grandkids and great grandkids. He would have the biggest smile for them and of course had to tease them a little.
Brad always loved to put on his best clothes on Sunday to be with his friends at the Tabernacle of Light Church and his Lord. He worked hard to take care of his family and took pride in his children and grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He spent his last years in West Virginia. May he rest in peace and may his Lord welcome him with loving arms.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Monday, December 23, 2019 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Hoover officiating.
