Obituary for Vernon Ray Cogar

Vernon Ray Cogar, 92, of Edward Street Weston passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019 in Meadowview Manor Nursing Home of Bridgeport, WV following an extended illness. He was born in Little Otter, WV on September 23, 1926: son of the late Earl Daniel Cogar and Frances Mae (DePoy) Cogar. On December 10, 1950, he married Emma Juanita (Cook) Cogar, who survives.
Mr. Cogar is also survived by one daughter: Janice Waters and husband Bill of Weston. He is also survived by one brother: Marlen Cogar of South Carolina, three sisters: Thelma Cogar, Sue Bates of Barberton, OH and Roberta Atkins of St. Louis, MO, one ½ brother: John Robertson of Parkersburg and several nieces and nephews. Vernon was blessed by a special niece, Kimberly Cook, who called to check on him every day and a special friend, Laura Murphy, who helped him along the way. In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by two brothers: Verlin and Howard Cogar.
Mr. Cogar was a glassworker with the West Virginia Glass Specialty Company of Weston. He attended the Glady Fork Baptist Church until his health began to deteriorate. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his cat, Paws II.
Mr. Cogar was a veteran of the United States Army as a Tech 5th grade with Battery C 867th Anti-Aircraft Artillery during WW II and was a sergeant during the Korean Conflict.
Per Vernon’s request, a graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. from Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew, WV with Pastor Jerry Bean officiating. Full Military honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Lewis County Honor Guard. Following services interment will follow in the family plot.
