Obituary for Thomas Dewain Goldsmith

Thomas D. Goldsmith, 83, of 298 Rada Avenue Weston passed away on Saturday, February 5th, 2022 at residence following an extended illness. He was born on January 16, 1939 in Weston, WV: son of the late Agnes Lorain Goldsmith McCutcheon and John H. Strader. His wife, Wanda L. Sims Goldsmith whom he married on September 6, 1959 went to Heaven on February 20, 2003.

Tom is survived by one daughter: Kristie Brand and husband John of Weston, three sons: Kenneth Goldsmith of Weston, Timothy Goldsmith (deceased), and Brian Goldsmith and wife Angie of Weston, a companion of 18 years: Shirley Shahan, 4 grandsons: Christopher Goldsmith, Joshua McClain, Joseph Goldsmith and Colton Brand, granddaughters: Patricia Yoho, Alyssa Goldsmith, Ashley Brand, Scarlett Brand, and Arwyn Brand and 2 great grandsons: Dominic and Daemon Yoho. He is also survived by seven sisters: Barbara Wilt (deceased), Joetta Clem of Weston, Linda Cantu of Weston, Carnellia Perry of North Carolina, Deborah Metz of Weston, Mary McCutcheon (deceased) and Judith McCutcheon (deceased), four brothers: James B. McCutcheon of Texas, John Junior Strader (deceased), Henry Strader (deceased) and Roscoe Strader (deceased) and two step brothers: James L. McCutcheon of Buckhannon and George McCutcheon and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Goldsmith was a glassworker all his life, with sixteen years with West Virginia Glass Specialty Company, nine years with Colonial Glass Company and six of those years he worked with both companies full time until the Colonial Glass Factory burned down on May 2, 1975. Tom then went on to work at Louis Glass which went through several name changes, Colgate Palmolive, Princess House Manufacturing and Glassworks WV LLC. He also loved country music all his life, he was with several country bands from 1968 to 1980, and then disc jockeyed for several years. Tom was also a Master of Ceremony for the Sagebrush Round Up at Bunner’s Ridge, Fairmont, WV for several years and was a vocalist there as well. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame on April 15th, 2017.

Family and friends will gather at Hardman Family Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 11 am. until 2 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. from the Hardman Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Russell Furr officiating.
