Obituary for Shirley Jane Pumphrey (Wright)
Shirley Jane (Wright) Pumphrey, age 86, went home to rest in the loving arms of Jesus on February 20, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Columbus, OH.
She was born on February 27, 1936, in Weston, WV, daughter to Roscoe and Bonice (Jordan) Wright.
Mrs. Pumphrey was married in Weston, WV in 1952 to Wesley Francis (Frank) Pumphrey, who preceded her in death on September 14, 2017.
Mrs. Pumphrey is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (John) Mitchell of Blacklick, Ohio, 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren. Shirley was the third of nine children: and is survived by four sisters, JoAnn Brown of Weston, Brenda (Kerri) Davis of Fairmont, Barbara Sigley of Bridgeport, and Vicki (Mark) Jackson of Weston, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Frank, Shirley was preceded in death by her two daughters, Lucinda (Cindy) Presley and Deborah (Debbie) Weaver, one sister, Norma Craig, and three brothers, Robert Wright, Richard Wright, and Daniel Wright.
Shirley will be deeply missed by her family. She was a loving, hard working person who never gave up even until her last breath, known for her gentle spirit and her unwavering faith. She dedicated her life to her husband and three girls. She will always be remembered for her love of gardening, but most of all she will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. She will always be remembered as a true inspiration.
Family and friends will be received at Hardman Family Funeral Home, 730 N. Main Avenue in Weston, WV on Sunday, February 26, 2023 from the hours 4-7 p.m. Celebration of life service and funeral will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Hardman Family Funeral Home chapel with Matthew Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Jane Lew, WV beside her husband.
