Obituary for Robert Lee Reed
Robert “Rob” Lee Reed, 83, of West Springfield, PA passed away on Thursday, November 4th, 2021 under the compassionate care of the Sarah A. Reed Skilled Nursing Facility in Erie, PA. He was born on March 24th, 1939 in Clarksburg, WV, son of the late Benjamin Totten Reed and Theresa (Stutler) Reed. Rob was united in marriage on January 17th, 1974 to Gayle (Parks) Reed, who survives.
Cherishing Rob’s life is his wife Gayle, 3 daughters: Rebecca A. Reed and husband Peter Szerdahelyi of Manchester, NH, Aimee E. Reed of Edna, TX and Robyn Jo Marlette of Clarksburg, WV, 1 grandson: James Queen and wife Tisha, 1 step-grandson: Braden Bunnell, 1 sister: Betty Lou Bennett and husband Dick of Fairmont, WV, 1 sister-in-law JoAnn Reed of Weston and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to Rob’s parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Charles Totten Reed and Lynn Alden Reed and 1 sister: Sandra Sue Entwistle.
Rob joined the United States Army in April 17, 1963 and was discharged on April 16, 1965 with the rank of Private first class. He worked as a Quality Manager. Rob enjoyed going to his cabin in West Virginia to hunt deer and visiting with family. His family used to get together the day before opening day of Buck season and tell deer stories, find out where everyone will hunt the next day and most importantly go over Hunting Safety Rules. These meetings became more important and special as children and great grandchildren came along. Rob enjoyed being outside jogging, sailing, gardening, and taking care of his property. He also enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader of history. He always had a Reader’s Digest and a bookmark in a Lewis and Clark expedition. He loved watching and taping his daughter’s participating in athletics and horse riding. He also enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns and WV Mountaineers play football on TV. On hot days, or really any day, he would be the first one to suggest going for an ice cream cone.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30pm on Sunday, November 7th, 2021 in the Mount Moore Cemetery on the Reed Farm in Harrison County with Reverend Brad Bennett officiating.
