Obituary for Richard Dean Gray
Richard Dean Gray, 98, of Beverly, WV passed away at his residence on Thursday, January 21st, 2021. He was born on December 14th, 1922 in Cameron, WV to the late Henry (Bud) Gray and Iva (Yocum) Gray. Richard was united in marriage on May 10th, 1942 to Wanda Y. (Montgomery) Gray who preceded him in death on March 19th, 2001.
Richard is survived by 2 daughters Sheila Diana Scott Strahin and husband Gary of Beverly WV and Rebecca Deanna Long of Deland, FL, 1 son-in-law Denny Burkett, 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren including special grandchildren: Aubrie and Korrie Evans, 8 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by 2 daughters Patricia Ann Burkett and Melinda Lee Roy and husband Denver, a brother Zane Gray and a special friend Ruth Finster.
Richard was a graduate of Weston High School class of 1949. He served as a Merchant Marine on the East Coast at the tail end of World War II. Richard was a retired Accounts Analyst for Consolidated Hope. He was a Methodist by faith and was a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church. He enjoyed building and flying remote airplanes. Richard was a life member of the Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star. Richard had two caregivers Kim Snyder and Nila Smith who were very special to him. Richard was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He will be missed by family and friends .
A graveside service with full Military Honors will be held on Friday, February 5th, 2021 at Lewis County Memorial Gardens at 12:30PM with Reverend Brian Plum officiating.
