Obituary for Nancy Ann McCord

Nancy Ann (Custer) McCord of 327 W. Whitaker Street, Clayton, NC transitioned to Glory on March 18, 2022 with her family gathered by her side. Mrs. McCord was born Nancy Ann Custer, daughter of George Allen Custer and Ruby Violet (Bates) Custer on April 28, 1942 in Clarksburg, WV.

Nancy was a 1960 graduate of Lewis County High School in Weston, WV. She then attended Clarksburg Business College. On August 27, 1966 she married the love of her life, Jack E. McCord, whom she had met in the 6th grade. He told a friend when he met her he would marry her someday. They were blessed to enjoy life and family together for over 46 years.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents George Allen Custer and Ruby Violet Custer, as well as her husband Jack E. McCord. She relocated to Clayton, NC to be with her children and grandchildren until her passing.

Nancy was active as a young girl in 4-H and different activities throughout school. She was a faithful volunteer in and around church and within her family’s lives and activities. She was a proud supporter of the Lewis County Minutemen and was an avid supporter of all LCHS athletics. She was a member of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church of Weston until she relocated to North Carolina where she attended First Baptist Church of Garner with her family. She enjoyed family gatherings, gift giving, craft fairs and music.

She is survived by her three daughters: Joy (McCord) Sensenig, and son-in-law James Sensenig, Jr. and their children Chelsea, Ciara, and Colton, all of Clayton, NC, Megan (McCord) Sanders and son-in-law Brian Sanders of Clayton, NC, and their children Emily (Wesley) Zdanio of Zephyrhills, FL and Josie Sanders of Clayton, NC, and Shannon McCord and fiancé William R. Barfield, and his children William Barfield and Boyd Barfield, all of Clayton, NC. She is also survived by her sister, Janet Ayers and her husband Grant Ayers of Garner, NC and sisters-in-law Joyce King and Janice McCord of Clearwater, Florida and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces/nephews whom she loved like her own.

Nancy continued to hold the Wild, Wonderful state of West Virginia close to her heart as well as all of the wonderful memories she created throughout her lifetime there. Country Roads….Take Me Home….

Family and friends will gather at Hardman Family Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 from 5PM-7PM. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 11AM from the funeral home chapel with Mr. Michael Mick officiating. Interment will follow services at the Lewis County Memorial Gardens in Weston. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SECU Hospice House at 426 Hospital Road, Smithfield, NC 27577 in honor of Nancy McCord.
