In early November 2020, Leslie Dawn Kiernan Butcher passed away at the age of 38, leaving us far too soon.

Leslie was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Alvy L. and Patricia Butcher of Jane Lew, and paternal grandfather William E. Butcher of Copley. Leslie is survived by her loving parents John Kevin and Susan Dawn Butcher of Jane Lew; brothers John Kevin Butcher II and Alden Kent Butcher along with his wife Micah Irene; niece Eliza Rae and nephew Collier David; grandmother Dorothy Jean Butcher of Weston; and many more family and friends than could be listed.

Leslie, of Jane Lew, WV was born on March 22nd, 1982. She was a graduate of Lewis County High School in 2000, where she enjoyed being active in many sports including basketball, soccer, and track. She attended college at Salem University where she played soccer. After college she took pride in working in her hometown school system coaching soccer and working as the Sports Writer for the Weston Democrat. Leslie was also an integral part of the family business. Whether she greeted you with a smile at the door or was behind the scenes in the kitchen, anyone who visited The Hickory House Restaurant was sure to find Leslie working hard.

Leslie had a passion for photography, finding beauty where no one else looked. She loved God and loved serving him through serving others. She treasured her time being active in her home church of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Weston, WV. She also took great pride in being a member of the Catholic Daughter’s of the America’s Court Victory 379.

Leslie had a special connection with children. They loved her and she loved them. She truly cared for all people. She had a bigger heart than she knew what to do with. Christmas time was Leslie’s season. She loved giving gifts and expecting nothing in return. Spreading cheer was her passion and Christmas allowed her to be who she truly was all year round.

Leslie could always find the humor in any situation. She loved to laugh. The warmth of her happy laughter filled innumerable rooms over the years. The lightness and joy she could bring to any occasion will be sadly missed. Those of us who were fortunate enough to be on the receiving end of one of her signature winks or watch her face light up, catching that sparkle in her eyes, know that Leslie was a storyteller and jokester by nature. Leslie could lighten the mood in any room when none other could.

A joyous soul like Leslie’s is not unlike a four-leaf clover... hard to find, yet so lucky to have. We love you, Leslie!

Family and friends will be received at Hardman Family Funeral Home at 730 N. Main Avenue Weston, WV on Wednesday, November 11th, 2020 from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM.
