Obituary for Joseph Leon "Joe" Walker
Joseph Leon Walker, 70, of Weston passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston following an extended illness. He was born in Weston on April 9, 1949: son of the late George Wesley Walker and Imogene (Turner) Walker. On August 29, 1968, he married Lee Ellen (Pertz) Walker, who survives.
Mr. Walker is also survived by two sons: Scott Walker and wife Terri and Aaron Walker both of Weston and one daughter: Michelle Larsen of Weston. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Kyran Larsen, Kasie Larsen and Colton Cole, two great-grandchildren: Maxston Larsen and Nylah Gregory and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by one brother: George “Sonny” Walker and one great-grandchild: Isiah Kemper.
Mr. Walker was a teacher and coach at Lewis County High School of Weston, WV, where he coached football, baseball, wrestling, track and weightlifting. Joe was a graduate of Lewis County High School with the class of 1967 and graduated from Akron University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. In addition to coaching at Lewis County High School, Joe coached college basketball at Wayne University in Ohio and at Boys Village in Smithville, OH where he taught and coached. He was proud to have been named to the Lewis County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016. Joe also enjoyed fishing and working on clocks. He loved his family and will be missed by all who knew him and all the athletes he ever coached.
At Joe’s request he will be cremated and a Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. from Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel where family and friends will have an opportunity to tell their own stories about Joe. Fellowship time will be from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday for you to visit and pay respects to his family.
