Obituary for James Herbert Wilson

James Herbert Wilson, of Weston, West Virginia passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021 after reaching the age of 92 years old. Following months of failing health, he died peacefully at the Stonerise Clarksburg Healthcare in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Jim showed courage in facing life challenges with a smile and was a soldier until the end.

Born, October 28, 1928 in Weston, West Virginia, Jim was the son of the late Ralph W. Wilson and Dona F. (McCauley) Wilson. He graduated from Weston High School with the class of 1947. Jim was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1951, serving with the 452nd Armored Field Artillery in Germany during the Korean conflict and earned an honorable discharge. In 1953 he met and married Betty Louise Dean enjoying 68 years together before her passing in 2010.

Jim is survived by two sons: James Stephen Wilson and Tamara of Weston, WV and Michael Herbert Wilson and Anita of Ashland, VA; grandchildren: Rebecca Strader and Brian of Mechanicsville, VA; Major Joshua Wilson and Bronwyn of Watertown, NY; Justin Wilson and Brittany of Bowling Green, VA; great-grandchildren: Isaac and Caelin Strader, Elizabeth and Jarrett Wilson, and Alexander James Herbert Wilson and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dwayne Wilson and Sharl “Buddy” Wilson and one sister Madelene Neal.

Jim retired from Equitable Gas Company as a compressor station operator with 36 years service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weston and enjoyed greatly being the Boy Scout Master of the church sponsored Troop #77 for over ten years.

Jim was an active Freemason and his Masonic history is as follows: Past Master of Weston Lodge #10 A.F. & A.M.; Past High Priest of Bigelow Chapter No. 4 Royal Arch Masons of West Virginia; Grand Convention of Anointed High Priests of West Virginia; Past Commander St. John’s Commandery No. 8 of Weston; Past Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of West Virginia in 2002-2003; Inspector General Honorary 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason of the Scottish Rite Valley of Clarksburg, WV; Nemesis Shrine Temple of Parkersburg, WV; Lewis County Shrine Club; Fort Henry York Rite College No. 6l of Wheeling, WV and a holder of the Order of the Purple Cross; West Virginia Council No. 7 Knights Masons, Wheeling, WV; Royal Order of Scotland; Allied Masonic Degrees, Martinsburg Council No. 359; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Shenandoah Forest No. 150, Martinsburg, WV; Past Prior of Knight York Cross of Honor West Virginia Priory No. 40; West Virginia Rosicruciana Society 7th Degree; and Past Patron of Weston Chapter No. 40 Order of Eastern Star. Jim excelled in presenting impressive ritualistic lectures in many of the Masonic bodies in which he was affiliated. His abilities will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank all the health care professionals from the Stonerise Clarksburg Healthcare for their care for nearly three years of his life and are grateful for the wonderful staff of the Amedisys Hospice of Anmoore for their comfort and care in his last days.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Jim with his family during visitation at the Hardman Family Funeral Home, 730 N. Main Avenue, Weston, WV on Thursday, August 12, from 4 pm - 7 pm, Eastern Star Services will be held by Weston Chapter No. 40 at 6:30 pm; and visitation will continue on Friday, August 13 from 11 am – 1 pm with funeral services following at 1 pm. Interment will follow at the Lewis County Memorial Gardens with military honors by the United States Army and the Lewis County Honor Guards and Masonic graveside rights given by Weston Lodge No. 10 A.F. & A.M.
