Obituary for Hugh Paul Hensil

Hugh Paul Hensil, 71, of Buckhannon, WV passed away on September 21, 2021 in the loving home of his daughter and son-in-law, Brett Ann and Jerry Workman.

Hugh was born on January 20, 1950 in Elkins, WV during the Blizzard that struck Randolph County that year.

He is the son of the late Henry H. Hensil and Pauline V. (Koerner) Hensil. On October 20, 1979, he married Christal (Ruppert) Hensil, who survives and will miss him greatly.

Forever cherishing their memories of Hugh are four children: Eric Hensil and wife Dawn of Salem, WV, Brett Ann and husband Jerry Workman of Buckhannon, WV, Halen Hensil of Fairmont, WV, and Seth Hensil of Buckhannon, WV. Hugh is also survived by his sister, Joyce Manner and husband Harold of Parkersburg, WV, and nephew Derek Manner and his daughter Lucy of Parkersburg, WV. He had one grandchild, Lacy Ferrebee of Salem and his little yorkie Koby.

After graduating from WVU, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant, and commanding a Titan II ICBM Silo. After being honorably discharged, he worked at Kroger for approximately 40 years before retiring.

All his life he had a passion for hunting and fishing, and enjoyed watching football and motor sports. He held the rank of Union Captain and the nickname of the “Strutting Peacock” in his local Civil War Reinactment Unit, which he loved greatly. He was a member of the Jacksons Mill Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He loved coaching pee-wee and little league baseball, and one of his teams received second place in the Kansas State Championships while he served in the USAF.

He was a loving father and husband and constantly supported his children in all of their endeavors. He enjoyed traveling to see his son Eric compete on the WVU Rifle Team, he supported his daughter Brett in her pageants, dance competitions, and track meets, he attended his son Halen’s soccer and basketball games, and loved listening to his son Seth playing the violin at concerts or just generally hanging out. He thought the world of his children, and they will always miss their Dad.
