Obituary for Glenn Edsel Wilfong

Glenn E. Wilfong (94), a long-time resident of Lewis County, passed away Thursday, December 31st, 2020 at Tygart Center in Fairmont, West Virginia. Glenn was the oldest son of Charles and Ola (Tallman) Wilfong of Kincheloe. He was born on Kincheloe in Harrison County on January 30, 1926.

Shortly after his graduation from Weston High School, Glenn entered the United States Navy where he served in the South Pacific and was present for the Battle of Iwo Jima. Glenn was honorably discharged in 1946.
In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his first wife Elizabeth (Harter) Wilfong, his second wife Frances (McCue) Wilfong, and his brothers James K., Jack W., and Leonard V. Wilfong. He is survived by his brothers Joseph R., John E. and his wife Marie, and his sister-in-law Joan Wilfong. In addition, he is survived by many nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by Francene and Jerry Kirk, Heather and George Fluharty, and his close friend Carol Linn.

Glenn loved working on motors and large equipment. He enjoyed working as a mechanic at A and B Chevrolet and the West Virginia Department of Highways as a Shop Foreman. He and Elizabeth enjoyed traveling and camping. After Elizabeth’s death, Glenn married Frances, and they were involved in community activities in Jane Lew. Glenn attended the Mt. Hebron Methodist Church and was active in the American Legion and the Lions Club. After Frances’s passing, Glenn lived with his brother Leonard in Tucson, Arizona, for two years. He returned to West Virginia and enjoyed the last two years living at Criss Manor in Weston. Glenn enjoyed his independence and spent time with his friends at the Lewis County Senior Centers in Jane Lew and Weston.

Glenn’s family is grateful to the staff and residents at Criss Manor, the Lewis County Senior Center, the Louis A. Johnson Veterans’ Homebased Care Program, United Hospital Center, Tygart Center, Amedisys Hospice, and the Hardman Family Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at the Good Hope Masonic Cemetery of Good Hope, WV on Wednesday January 6th, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Ron Brown officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the United States Navy and the Harrison County Honor Guard. Interment will follow services at Good Hope Masonic Cemetery.
