Obituary for Gerald Eugene "Gene" Bennington

Gerald “Gene” Eugene Bennington, 74, of Jane Lew, WV, passed away suddenly at his residence on Thursday, January 28th, 2021. He was born on April 19th, 1946, in Weston, WV, to the late William Bennington and Mary (Parmer) Rexroad.

Gene is survived by 3 daughters Sarah Hill and husband Matthew of Jane Lew, WV; Cara Matheny and husband James of Jane Lew, WV; and Tisha Strader and husband John III of Weston, WV; 5 grandchildren Whitney Stroop, Joshua Tannous, Hannah Strader, Emily Hill and John Strader IV; 5 great-grandchildren Nathanael Stroop, Noah Stroop, Levi Stroop, Samuel Tannous, John Strader V, Taryn Stroop, Wyatt Stroop and Kaleb Stroop, a brother Lawrence Bennington of Weston, WV, and a sister Kathy Burkhammer and husband Darrell of Camden, WV. In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by a brother Howard Bennington and a longtime companion: Nancy Cutlip.

Gene was a Heavy Equipment Operator for Petitto Brothers. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. Gene was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in the Vietnam during August of 1968 thru August of 1970 obtaining a Specialist E5 Rank. He enjoyed restoring antique cars and golfing when he was able. He has had a longtime companion his dog “Cody”. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Family and friends will be received at Hardman Family Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue of Weston, WV on Saturday, January 30th, 2021 from 5:00PM-7:00PM. A private family funeral will be held on Sunday, January 31st, 2021 in the funeral home chapel at 1:00PM with Reverend Ron Brown officiating. Interment will follow services at Freemansburg United Methodist Church Cemetery in Freemansburg, WV, with full Military Honors.
