Franklin “Burk” Burkhammer Jr, 79 of Weston passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Village Nursing Home in Ashland, Ohio. He had spent the past two years with his daughter in Ohio and then was at Good Shepherd 4 ½ months. He was born in Lewis County on October 22, 1941 to the late Franklin C and Pauline (Davisson) Burkhammer. Burk is survived by his daughter, Diane Bowman of Crestline, OH, stepson Frank “Hank” Myers of Weston and stepson John (Cheryl) Myers of Weston: 9 grandchildren-Charlie Johnson, Tabitha Rhodes & Shelly Johnson of OH, Sarah (Jason) Harnish of MD, Zachary Myers, Jonathon Blake & Cheyenne Blake of Weston. Chelsea (Scott) Mayo of Weston, Casey (Jay)Matthews of VA and 13 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Burk is also survived by stepsons Tim(Donna)Squires of Weston and Jeff Squires of NC; 2 grandchildren-Greg(Jordan)Squires of PA and Katelyn(Cory) Bunner of Fairmont, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Burk is survived by 2 sisters Geraldine Marsh of Weston and Rose (Jr) Lattea of Camden and many nieces and nephews.
Burk was preceded in death by his companion of 37 years Sandra Loller and his first wife Joan (Lamb) Burkhammer, his brother Robert “Sonny” Burkhammer, sisters-Madeline Ireland & Bonnie Bonnett.
Burk worked for Colonial Glass until it burnt down and then went on to have Colonial Glass Gift shop for several years before going to Maintenance at Weston Housing Authority until he retired. Burk was huge West Virginia Mountaineer fan and an avid fisherman. He was a member of the American Bass Association for many years. Back in his prime fishing days Burk was a member of the Backlash Basscasters of Weston when he and a buddy placed 2nd in the state and 7th in the nation at a tournament at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. Burk was a talker and loved talking to the people all over Weston. Burk loved all children, especially his grandchildren and very much liked introducing them to fishing.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman Family Funeral Home, 730 N. Main Ave., Weston on Friday, April 2 from 11:00-1:00 and funeral will immediately follow with Pastor Roy Wiant officiating. In maintaining the control of spread of Covid19 the family is requesting masks be worn at the funeral home and are not scheduling an after meal. We want our family and friends to stay safe.
