Obituary for Delbert Wesley Shackleford

Delbert Wesley Shackleford, 68, of Linn, WV departed this life January 3, 2022 at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, WV with family by his side.

Delbert was born December 8, 1953 at home in Linn, WV. He was one of thirteen children born to the late Harvey W. and Ella May (Ables) Shackleford.

On August 2, 1975, Delbert was united in marriage to the love of his life and best friend Nancy L. (Sprouse) Shackleford, who survives at their Linn home.

Also surviving are three sons; Delbert Wesley II (Angel) Shackleford, John Thomas Shackleford both of Linn, WV, Devin Wayne (Dawn) Shackleford of Weston, WV. Delbert’s pride and joys were his grandkids; Jessica and husband Lucas Minney of Burnsville, Brian and wife Sarah Collins of Rocky Fork, Brianna and husband Aaron Miller of Shock, Caleb Collins and fiancé Mageria Metz of Orlando, Evin, Brentin, Madison, Riley and Gracin Shackleford of Weston, great grandchildren; Adelynn, Kenton and Ella Minney of Burnsville and Hudson Collins of Rocky Fork.

In addition to his immediate family Delbert is survived by siblings; Shady Hannigan of Weston, WV, Mollie (Ronnie) Lamb of Horner, WV, Ella Mae Tomey of Pricetown, WV, Jesse (Merle) Shackleford of Vadis, WV, Jim (Cathy) Shackleford of Troy, WV, Rocky Shackleford of Bridgeport, WV, Bub (Karen) Shackleford of Linn, WV, Rozella Montgomery of Linn, WV, brother in law George Bush of Linn, WV, along with a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, and many close personal friends that were like family to him.

Delbert began farming when he was just a child and continued his passion his whole life. He held a variety of jobs in the oil field until an accident left him unable to continue. Delbert always made time to help others, he devoted over 20 years as a 4-H Leader in Gilmer County, being a mentor and role model to countless children and adults involved in the program. Delbert received many awards during that time including being inducted to the 4-H All-Stars.

Delbert has served as a volunteer fireman for 31 years, helping countless individuals over the years. He was instrumental in developing the Midway Food Pantry in Vadis, WV, where they serve hundreds of family and those in need spending thousands of hours collecting food, picking up and distributing at the pantry.

In addition to his parents, Delbert was preceded in death by one son Billy Joe Shackleford and siblings; Gilbert (Shirley) Shackleford, Mavis (Irvin) Lowther, Violet Bush, Mary (Gary) Starcher, brothers in law; Jim Montgomery and Bob Tomey.

Family and friends can gather to honor Delbert’s memory at Hardman Family Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Friday, January 7, 2022 from 4PM-7PM. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 11AM from the funeral home chapel with Reverend Martin Wine officiating.
