Obituary for Charlotte Faye Smith (Barker)

Charlotte Faye Smith, 79, of Weston went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, November 21, 2020 in River Oaks Nursing Home of Clarksburg, WV. She was born in Clarksburg on November 5, 1941: daughter of the late Olen C. Barker and Opal D. Perrine Barker. On November 10, 1959, she married her husband, Ronald Gene “Sonny” Smith, who preceded her in death on February 5, 2017.

Charlotte is survived by two daughters: Connie Faye Smith and Ronda Jean (James) Cogar both of Weston, one son Randy Gene Smith of Weston, adopted daughter in spirit: Heather Liggett, three grandchildren: Larry Snider, II, Charlotte Smith(deceased) and James Russell Cogar, II,( deceased),and six great-grandchildren: Austin, Sierra and Alleigha Snider, Logan Higgins, Wyatt Snider(deceased) and Luke Smith. She had two brothers: Reverend Eddie Leroy Barker and wife Virginia of Burnsville and Clifford Ray Barker (deceased), four sisters: Barbara Kay Smith and husband Edward of Weston, Tisha Ann Hitt of Manassas, VA, Evelyn Jane Keesecker(deceased) and Dorothy L. Stroop (deceased) and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker, a retired national certified psychiatric technician with William Sharpe Hospital of Weston and a graduate of Life University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theology. Charlotte was a member of the Weston Church of God where she was active as a clerk with 30 years of service and taught Sunday school. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting and doing word search puzzles. Her greatest joy was reading her Bible, listening to gospel music and praising her Lord. Charlotte was a gentle soul and will be missed by all who knew her.

Family and friends will be received at Hardman Family Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue of Weston on Sunday, December 6, 2020 2-3 p.m. for a public fellowship time for Charlotte. A private Celebration of Life service in her memory will follow on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. from Hardman Family Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Ryan Seabolt officiating. With Charlotte’s wishes for cremation carried out, a private scattering of her cremains will be held at her family cemetery at the convenience of the family.
