Obituary for Charles Richard Kemper

Charles Richard Kemper, 90, of Valley Chapel, WV finished his race with a checkered flag on Monday, January 4th, 2021. He was born on May 10th, 1930 in Freemansburg, WV to the late London Lee Kemper and Mary Rachel (Bailey) Kemper. He was united in marriage on July 5th, 1995 to Mary Katherine (Rumbach) Kemper who survives.

Cherishing their memories with Charlie our 1 daughter: Connie Jane Kemper Scott (Tom) of Weston, WV, 1 son: Charles Alan Kemper (Kelli) of Weston, WV, 3 step-daughters: Virginia Riggs of Mt Savage, MD, Veronica Riggs of Horner, WV and Victoria Riggs of Lorentz, WV, 5 grandchildren: Amber Darnell (Erik), Megan Westfall (Chad), Courtney Breckenridge (Jeff), Cayla Fawley (Micheal) and Cody Kemper, 3 step-grandchildren: Jacob Breen, Hannah Breen and Tony Riggs, 5 great-grandchildren: Jackson and Annabeth Darnell, Audrey and London Westfall and Jack Breckenridge.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Kathryn Kemper Priolette and Evelyn Kemper Varner.

Charles attended Weston High School and joined the United States Marines right after graduation. He served during the Korean War and began a career with Consolidated Natural Gas after returning home to West Virginia. Charlie worked for the gas company for 43 years before retiring.

Charlie has been a race fan his entire life and has traveled the country to watch every kind of racing, from dirt track to NASCAR. He loved local racing in West Virginia as well. Charlie rarely missed a NASCAR race on television and enjoyed a good discussion about the history and future of the sport. Charlie finished his race here on Earth, but his race will continue on by watching over his loving family.

Family and friends will be received at Hardman Family Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston, WV on Thursday, January 7th, 2021 from 10:00 AM-11:00AM. A private family funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Russell Furr officiating. Interment will follow services at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew, WV. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to the St. Patrick’s School 224 Center Avenue Weston, WV 26452.
