Obituary for Bonnie Lissette Helmick (Matheny)
Bonnie Lissette Matheny Helmick, 63, of Bridgeport, WV, went to be with her Lord and Savior, March 28, 2023, at Camden Clark Hospital in Parkersburg, WV.
Born October 31, 1959, in Lewis County, daughter of the late James Brannon Matheny and Bonnie Lee Lockard Matheny. Bonnie graduated from Lewis County High School in Weston in 1977. She continued her education through several colleges and universities to achieve two Master’s Degrees. Bonnie worked as a Probation Officer in Lewis County, a Security Officer at the State Hospital in Weston, WV and she worked for the WV Department of Health and Human Resources. She retired in 2010 as a Social Worker at a nursing home in Indiana, PA.
On September 25, 1982, she married the love of her life, Jerry Lee Helmick. They enjoyed 38 years together until his passing on December 13, 2020. In addition to her husband and parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Sharon Byrd Matheny, and a nephew, J.D. Matheny. She is survived by a sister, Shirley Yost, and two brothers, Jim and Linda Matheny and Joe and Jeanie Matheny. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She attended the Broad Street United Methodist Church in Weston and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Friends will be received at the Hardman Family Funeral Home, Weston, WV on Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Bill Hunt officiating.
