Obituary for Betty Lou Smith (Hindman)

Betty Lou Smith, 88, of Jane Lew passed away on Thursday June 11th, 2020 in Clarksburg Nursing Home and Rehab Center following a brief illness. She was born in Slippery Rock, PA on April 27th, 1932: daughter of the late Lewis M. Hindman and Emaline Ruth Pollum Hindman. She married Ray Smith, who preceded her in the death in 1980.

Mrs. Smith is survived by 4 daughters: Claudia Cain of Clarksburg, Carol Post of Florida, Ruth Ann Bailey of Sardis, and Nora Perrine of West Milford and 4 sons: Ray Smith of Jane Lew, Mike Edwards and Rick Bolyard both of Bethesda, OH and David Smith of Florida. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren: Amanda, Brandi, Ben, Kaity, Chris, Carol, Jeremy, Ryan, Josh, Danny, Billy, Pam, Penny, Tina, Stacy, Michael, Mark, Mathew, Jason, and Debbie, and also several great and great-great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Ray, Betty was preceded in death by 1 brother and 2 sisters.

Mrs. Smith was a wife, mother, and grandmother. She at one time was a beautician in Jane Lew owning her own shop. She was a cook at the Lewis County Senior Center of Weston and later was a caregiver for the elderly. Betty was a graduate of Lost Creek High School. She enjoyed watching TV, and especially game shows. Betty also enjoyed being outdoors. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.

Family and friends will be received at the Hardman Family Funeral Home 730 North Main Avenue Weston, WV on Wednesday June 17th, 2020 from 11AM-1PM. Due to COVID-19, the family understands if you don’t feel comfortable coming for the visitation. A private family funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1PM from the Hardman Family Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Russell Furr officiating. Interment will follow services at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew, WV. Online condolences and life stories in memory of Betty may be expressed at hardmanfamilyfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lewis County Senior Center at 171 West 2nd Street Weston, WV 26452.
