Obituary for Aretta Pearl Gum

Aretta Pearl Gum, 78, of Camden, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. She was born in Lewis County on July 21, 1944, daughter of the late James and Florence (Ruble) Harris. Aretta was united in marriage on April 1, 1966 to James Robert Gum. Together they shared 56 wonderful years.

Forever cherishing their memories of Aretta are her husband, James, daughter, Pamela Jane Lamb of Camden, son, James Robert Gum II of Camden, two grandchildren, Zachary Lamb and Eric James Marshall, 3 great grandchildren, Mason Lamb, Eli Cooper Lamb, and Landon James Wimer, three sisters, Susie Swiger of Weston, Louise Horn of Weston, and Marlene Wade of Weston and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Aretta was preceded in death by a brother, James Harris and a sister, Marsha Keene.

Aretta was a graduate of Weston High School in 1964. She worked as a cook at Jackson’s Mill. Aretta was a member of the Churchville United Methodist Church and was very active at the Lewis County Senior Center. Most of all, Aretta was a loving housewife and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Family and friends will be received at Hardman Family Funeral Home, 730 N. Main Avenue of Weston on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 11AM-1PM. The funeral service will begin at 1PM from the funeral home chapel with Reverend Kenny Kendall officiating. Interment will follow services at Snyder Cemetery in Camden, WV.
