Obituary for Amy Lorraine Atchison

Amy L. Atchison, age 81, passed peacefully July 19, 2021. She was born March 11, 1940, in
Fairfield, IA, to the late Carl D. Painter and the late Phyllis D. Redding Poulson.

Amy was one of nine children growing up in and around Cameron, IL. She left home after
graduating from Galesburg High School at the age of 18 to join the Air Force where she proudly
served her country. During her service she met and married the love of her life, Tom E.
Atchison, who also served in the Air Force and preceded her in death in 2007. Also, preceding
Amy in death are two brothers, Daniel Painter and Jerry (Sharon) Painter and a sister, Betty Jane
Taylor.

Amy loved her family and her friends. Everyone was always welcome in her home. Family
members recall many memories of getting severely sunburned during visits to their home in
Virginia Beach. She loved getting together with friends for card games and trips to the beach.
Family and sister reunions, Christmas and birthday celebrations were very special to her. Amy
loved to travel making several Disney World trips, Bermuda, Mexico and her favorite a mission
trip to Ireland.

Never one to sit still Amy always got herself into groups and hobbies from ceramics and
macrame in the 1970’s to obtaining her real estate license in the 1980’s to a college degree
earned in the 1990’s. Square dancing, numerus volunteer work and church groups kept her busy
along with her many places of employment to include her career with the FBI in Fairmont, WV,
where she retired from in 2005 after many years.

Birds, flowers and angels were among her favorite things. Almost every home Amy lived was a
bird feeder in the yard. She loved to paint and decorate her home. When Amy rested you could
find her on the front porch swing with a book in hand enjoying a cup of coffee. Everyone recalls
her beautiful smile.

Amy is survived by her son, Thomas E. Atchison and her daughter, Jennifer E. Atchison; her
beloved grandchildren Jessica Findley (Steve), Dustin Humphrey (Sarah), and Andrew
Humphrey; Amy’s great grandchildren William Nichols, Jozline Humphrey, Elliot Findley,
Colin Findley and Haley Findley; her sisters Sally Anderson (Allan), Diana Parker, Nancy West
(Lloyd), Ethel Clark, Mary Judy (Michael) and all her loved nieces, nephews, sisters- and
brothers-in-law.
