Obituary for Alex Lexie Stapleton Sr.

Alex Lexie Stapleton, Sr., 82, of Jackson Mill Community, Weston, went on to his Heavenly reward on Tuesday, April 20, 2021surrounded by his loving family and under the loving care of West Virginia Hospice. He was born in Picayune, Mississippi on November 29, 1938: son of the late Alex Alonzo Stapleton and Hilda (Stewart) Stapleton. On August 31, 1979, he married Mary M. (Durbin) Stapleton, who survives.

In addition to his loving wife, Alex is survived by one son: Alex L. Stapleton, Jr and wife Noelle of Gormania, WV, two step daughters: Christina Jones of Weston and Michelle Sergent and husband Perry of Nitro, WV, one step son: Joseph Frances Riley and wife Sherry of Weston, 14 grandchildren,12 great-grandchildren and one daughter-in-law: Lisa Stapleton. He is also survived by two sisters: Barbara Johnson and Linda Thomas both of Muskegon, Michigan and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Alex was preceded in death by two sons: Jeff S. Stapleton and Christopher J. Stapleton, Alex’s first wife: Beatrice (Kurburski) Stapleton, one daughter-in-law: Renate Stapleton, two brothers: Henry Boyd and Marvin Stapleton and five sisters: Anna Kate Philps, Clarene Geary, Brenda Mergener, Mary Ann Stapleton and Marie Stapleton.

Mr. Stapleton retired from housekeeping at Jackson Mill State 4-H Camp of Lewis County. He was a member and trustee of the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church. Alex was a volunteer and active with Lewis County Senior Center and Jackson Mill Fire Department. He enjoyed being a part of the Civil War Re-Enactment group serving with the North Encampment. Alex hobbies included fishing, hunting and woodworking. Family and friends will miss him dearly.

Family and friends will be received at the Hardman Family Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Friday, April 23rd, 2021 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with funeral services following with Reverend Russell Furr officiating. Interment will follow services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens of Jane Lew, WV. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Alex may be expressed at hardmanfamilyfuneralhome.com.
